Green Machine

Custom foam spray on the deck of this USC Performance Plus built for Jason.

Dimensions are 5'11 by 19 by 2 5/16 , litres 26.83. Instead of the standard pin tail or rounded pin , Jason ordered a swallow tail set up . Which allows a little more area in the tail pod , equals more hold and bite at higher speeds and two distinct pivot points with the swallow design .

Designed for good  to really good waves , well when it's pumping ! Kind of like Indonesia this week , get over there !

Mentawais Surf Tax

Our good mate Harry updated the quiver and headed over to the Mentawais in early August . Trying to get in before the all new Mentawai Surf Tax takes effect . Yes SURF TAX, you can read all about this new tax here at Surfline website.  But basically every visiting surfer will pay from $76 US upwards to surf the Mentawais Region , depending on the length of your stay . Hit the link above or go to the Jakarta Post for the original  breaking story .

Staying near playgrounds area at the Mentawai Surf Retreat  ,he managed to score a variety of waves from fun little setups like Pit Stops

Where he rode his USC TP1 model, perfect for those smaller days in tropics.

Then when conditions turned on he headed round the corner to a much intense set up called Bank Vaults . Its a fast , shallow barreling wave with a heavy inside section .

The Low Is The Go

DCD Low flyer custom for Jacob, dimensions are 5'8 by 19 1/2 by 2 7/16 th. Litres 29.69.

Formula Energy DCD Low FlyerA modern day twin fin with a heavy influence from yesteryear . The stringerless blank is fused with dual kevlar stripes on the deck , to add durability but also improve "flex" (see previous blog)

The design of the board is really different with flat deck line , then an extreme step down beveled rail . Allowing the board to knife through turns .

The plan Shape is single flyers to add that quick release pivot point .

The bottom shape a flattish style rocker, but not too flat . Single into double concave with V thru the tail . Fast and loose with plenty of hold when you add the small rear trailer.

Resin Art

We love having a little creative freedom with the artwork on your custom surfboard. Artwork and design is such a subjective thing . What one person digs , some others may not .

Formula Energy Surfboard

With the Resin Tints / Artwork we do our best to replicate as you see it on the computer screen or surfboard. But reality is it always comes out a little different .

Which we think is cool as , it makes ever surfboard a truly individual unique functioning piece of artwork .

From designing stage of the file to shaping the blank , laminating ,adding fins boxes then sanding , then to final finish coats . Many hands touch a surfboard , in that respect it truly is a hand made product .

Lot Of Love

Lot of love went into  this surfboard for Tomas its a  USC Hi Performance model

On the bottom is a Resin Tint design called , Three Way Grey Light Blue Charcoal Resin Tint .
Featuring, cleaner deck lines, improved rocker, more forgiving rails and overall a much better, way improved surfboard, all designed for easier rail to rail transitions, and noted quickness coming back out of turns, tail shape "Squash Tail".

Formula Energy Surfboard

The Squash Tail design is the most common tail shape you see on modern performance surfboards .

Talking tail shape can become a little confusing but here is a simple way of understanding some basic ideas.

Think of a more angular tail as creating more angular, square turns ,like a square tail. A rounder tail will create more elliptical, smoother turns, for example a rounded pin tail.

Take the Squash Tail, a square tail that has been rounded off !

Its Very responsive, the squash tail design provides all the surface and planing area of a round tail, contributing to speed and lift and helping to maintain speed in slower spots.

The rounded corners provide a bit more bite and control than the round tail, and the square end allows the board to release. The corners allow for more pivotal, abrupt turns off the bottom or on the face, but will provide less release off the top. This tail design relies on the thruster, tri-fin setup to maintain control. The squash is the most popular tail for a short-board.

Keith's Quiver

Keith loved his USC Alien so much he ordered a couple of updates to the quiver.

Unfortunately Keith was little time pressed and could not wait for the Carbon rail version . Which can take up to four weeks .

So we got the original board number of his current USC Alien and we replicated in a Premium Alien model, bit more price friendly and quicker to make .

Dimensions are 5'10 by 19 3/4 by 2 5/8   30.96 litres

He also ordered a custom twin fin Premium Mid Flyer (right) 5'8 by 19 3/4 by 2 5/8   32.33 litres.

Black Resin

Harry is a really patient guy and we thank him for waiting a little longer than normal for his custom Nemo !

He wanted the blackest surfboard we could build . Black resin tints are possibly the hardest boards to build , if you strive for perfection !

This USC Nemo deadline got blown out the window ! But we think we delivered on this shooter...

Formula Energy Surfboard USC Nemo jet black resin tint On our social media feed , well known Shaper  Rodney Dahlberg at @dahlbergsurfboards commented on our Instagram feed

Probably the hardest board in the World to make especially EPS/Epoxy! Don't leave in a hot car!!@formulaenergy

Very true, you definitely don't want to leave this board in a hot car for very long .

Although this board is a PU blank with Polyester resin it's still a valid point . The amount of thought and processes that goes into a black resin surfboard is incredible .

We are super stoked how it came out ! Black On Black !

Sweet Savage

You can watch a short video clip of  Brent Savage going ham on a recent trip to Bali / Sumbawa riding his signature model

This Custom surfboard is 6'3 by 19 3/4 by 2 3/4 , 33.57 litres.

If you looking for aperformance surfboards , check out these pre loved

models available now online ex team boards etc , some on sale

Tweaked Twin

Another tweaked out twin added to the range . The feedback we got was just so good we could leave this one on the sideline any longer. Lot of guys love there twins but are hesitant to push them and by adding the a small rear fin feel it just adds that extra hold most twins lack .

Introducing the  TP1 or Two Plus one ..

You can see definite influences from the Alien outline and flat Nemo fish rocker , with an altered bottom shape, consisting of a subtle Single concave into Spiral V With Slight Double concave. All very subtle and forgiving designed as a genuine small wave alternative twin fin then add the a small third fin rear stabiliser for a little extra hold .

Different characteristics to your standard twin with this board, designed to be ridden with a small rear stabilizer , looks like a thruster setup if you want a little extra hold through your turns.

The TP1 or Two Plus One , has its DNA from our Alien and Nemo designs but take a closer look at the rocker , bottom shape and rail volumes and of course the important fin cluster set up and what you will see is a performance based twin fin .
From one to four foot , this could be the most fun you could have !

Fun Flyer

The Flyer series are old school inspired twin fin models available in the stringerless carbon deck DCD Range or in the plain stringer version Premium Range.

At first glance the plan shapes or outlines may all look very similiar when checking them out on the internet .

Here is a brief breakdown explaining some of the subtle differences.

The Low Flyer

Retro Twin Fin with rear stabiliser option. The Flat deck under the front foot allows you to glide into waves with ease. Then lay it on rail with the step down beveled rail and old school idea ,which allows you to maintain speed and flow .

The Flat deck line allows you maintain plenty of foam in a very short board, which is very popular at the moment . But with the chimed or bevel rail once you lay it into a turn the low rail volume allows the board to knife thru turns like a modern shortboard.

The Mid Flyer

Again Twin Fin with the rear fin option . The deck line is more domed and leads into  a medium rail (50 /50 style).

Super fast and forgiving , easy to ride and turns effortlessly with the Twin set up .

Best for surfers who just want to add a no fuss twin fin surfboard to the quiver .

The High Flyer

Top of the range version based of the Mid Flyer rail simple proven performance deck line but with a channel bottom, altered rocker and tail lift . Designed to enhance the extra speed and hold the channels gives you.

Again a no fuss twin fin set up as far as rails volumes and rocker goes, with option of adding a rear third fin or stabiliser.

The whole board is inspired by the 1980's era but re-invented to perform . single flyer swallow tail with four channels. Speed, flow with hold and Channel Bottom bite !

Made for good down the line clean waves.
